Five minutes with Sean

Graphic designer

He wants to wear a pale blue suit whilst singing China Girl from the top of his lungs, then if he’s hungry he might go get a lite bite or some pub grub, ideally he’d be able to fly there and hopefully Alan Moore will be waiting for him 🤔 Sean’s five minutes with will explain all for you…

1). If you were to go on Stars in Their Eyes who would you be and why? Tonight Matthew I’m going to be David Bowie! I would sing ‘China girl’, it is my karaoke ‘go to’ song. It would also be nice to wear a pale blue suit.

2). What is your favourite and least favourite word or phrase and why? My least favourite phrases are food related rhymes such as; light bite, pub grub (is the worst of all 🙅🏻‍♂️), posh nosh, snack pack, and surf and turf. I think it’s the common gesture that goes with it, usually a really cringe hand movement. My favourite word is rambunctious as it sounds onomatopoeic.

3). Where do you most want to travel but you have never been? Definitely Japan 🇯🇵 I missed out when I worked at Virgin Atlantic where I had free flight perks but it was always booked up. It seems like an adult playground, I would like to immerse myself in the culture and feel a little lost and overwhelmed.

4). The best thing about working at Ocasta is: The jokes 🤣…I like being responsible for the design projects I work on, UX/UI, look and feel, branding etc. I always feel supported from the team. We are growing at a very nice rate which makes me feel secure and enthusiastic about our future.

5). How would your friends and family describe you? Annoying… I can talk too much, but patient and tolerant as I very rarely snap. I try not to judge people because I know that we all have our ups and downs. Also considerate with a strong sense of empathy which I get from my mum who was a nurse.

6). What’s the worst haircut/style you’ve ever had? Discounting the 90s wedge curtains undercut, I recently shaved my head grade four all over because my hair is so thick and it was beginning to annoy me 💇🏻‍♂️ I had a moustache at the same time as well. It was a hilarious combo!

7). Do you prefer working in Brighton or London and why? That is easy, definitely Brighton! I enjoy London on a social scale but Brighton has a more laid-back outlook and is as far from the London rat race as possible 🐀 it is the polar opposite.

8). If you could have three celebrities at your dinner table who would they be and why? My first guest would be David Byrne from Talking heads to talk about music, his theories about social media and the echo chamber.

For guest number two I would have Alan Moore as he is a big hero of mine. I met him on the Electricomics project and I found him really engaging, fascinating and down to earth. He made a lot of recommendations about books and graphic novels and literature that I should read such as H.P. Lovecraft and Garth Ennis. He certainly countered the ‘never meet your heroes’ argument!

My third guest would be Eleanor Friedberger of The Fiery Furnaces. She could help me understand a lot of her lyrics a bit more. They are usually based around diary entries or other people’s first-hand accounts of incidents.

9). What is your favourite TV show and why? Well it varies, the last really good ones have been Fargo, Narcos, Line of Duty, Legion and Planet Earth. I like shows where you have to solve the problems and are not pandered too, I like the sense of not knowing what’s going on but having an idea or theory.
