Five minutes with Freyja

Freyja tells us about her huge love of food 💛 🍝 and what she means if she ever tells you to enjoy the rest of your life. She is the most thankful for her supportive friends and can ramble on for days if you let her 😳

What is your best quality? My caring nature, I put a lot of work in to make sure my friends are ok. I used to be a support worker so I have a lot of experience and training into providing good quality support, I’m a good friend to have if you have bad mental health.

What is your worst quality? I love myself too much. I think it’s because I can lack some confidence so when I do something right or good, I impress myself. I become so impressed that I want everyone else to know, it comes from doubting myself too much so I overcompensate.

If you went on a talent show what would you do? (Freyja starts playing the happy birthday tune on her face by slapping her cheek) I would do that 👈 or perhaps I would just eat lots of food. I could tell a really long story made up about nothing and ramble on for ages.

What is your favourite tv show? Frasier, I once had a girlfriend who said my name reminded her of Frasier because of the ‘j’ in the spelling. We used to watch it together so now I watch it every single morning, it’s a nice way to start the day with a double espresso and some cereal. I have a psychology degree so I get all the jokes. Although half of them come down to miscommunication which can make it a bit painful to watch 🤦‍♀️

What do you like doing outside of work? In the summer I love swimming in the sea, in the winter I stay at home and watch Netflix, I love Breaking Bad, Brooklyn 99 and the Good Place. I’ve got a few friends in London so on the weekend I go and visit them sometimes too.

What do you like most about working at Ocasta? Well I know it seems like we’re contractually obliged to say the people 😆 but I think it is really the team. When some of us go for lunch together it’s a good laugh, there are always good jokes around the office. Everyone is always friendly, Fika is amazing because it involves food and there is coffee ☕️

If you could live anywhere in the world for a year where would you live? Probably Canada, the reason for this is pretty silly. A few months ago I went to see my friend in India, I knew it was going to be too hot for me there, whilst waiting for my flight I saw one terminal going to India and one going to Canada. At that particular moment, I just imagined going to Canada and the whole situation has made me want to go. I would probably live there for a year and then realise it’s too cold ❄️

What is your favourite saying? I like to say ‘enjoy the rest of your life’ when I say goodbye to people 👋 I think it’s a nice expression. I love using it because there is a weird thing in language where we interpret things in a non-literal way. When I use the phrase, people think I am implying that they’re going to die or that I’m never going to see them again 😔 It just shows how people interpret sentences it really amuses me, I like quirks of language.

If you could be famous what would you be famous for? I’d like to be famous for doing the right thing. Years ago I worked for a care company and I ended up reporting some abuse. It was the most stressful experience of my life. It made me respect people like Edward Snowden and Chelsea Manning even more. These people put themselves in a position where they are vulnerable but they did it because it’s the right thing to do and they have a strong belief in the human race.

How would you want people to remember you? As someone who always strived to do the right thing as well as being very weird, not caring what society thought but making it all work flawlessly together.

What excites you? Food, copious amounts of food 🥐🥔🍝 I like carbs my favourites are pastries, croissants, baklava, pasta and potatoes. I love sweets, my favourite sweets which I haven’t had in over 11 years because I went vegetarian are gummy beer bottles. I miss those, there are no veggie alternatives.

What are you thankful for? I am thankful for my friends and my health, the friends I have made have really helped me develop as a person they’re very supportive and encouraging. Years and years ago I wasn’t the best person, my friends are the kind of people who will call you out if you say something bad so they told me when I was chatting garbage. I’m fortunate I have good health, my mental health hasn’t always been the best but it’s constantly getting better.

Do you have any bad habits? Complicated question, if I were to have any bad habits I would stop because I like to improve myself ✋A bad habit would be what other people think is bad, but I don’t really care what everyone else thinks. As I have to choose one, it would be how messy my room is but I enjoy the mess so it doesn’t bother me.
